Probably a reference to The Counterfeiters (original title: Les Faux-monnayeurs), a 1925 novel by French author André Gide, first published in Nouvelle Revue Française. It breaks the 19th century novel model and uses a multi-perspective narrative technique, using diaries, letters, and third person point of view to tell a story.
