Although the story doesn't have similarities with Lewis Archer's past, both her and The Long Goodbye's main character, Philip Marlowe, are private investigators. The name Lew Archer came from another writer, Ross Macdonald, who initially modeled his character after Philip Marlowe. While the novel's plot doesn't have much in common with in-game Lew Archer, her initial mental state is somewhat similar to Chandler's while writing the book: his wife was slowly dying from a chronic illness, driving him into melancholy, alcoholism and suicidal thought. - Credit: Necrosyrtes
