Both the English and Chinese title (万般皆注定, which also translates to "all is predestined" or "all is doomed") is probably a reference to the Chinese proverb from the "Words of Warning to the World" (警世通言): “和尚们晓得是马公子马相公，无不钦敬。其年正是三十二岁，交逢好运，正应张铁口先生推算之语。可见：万般皆是命，半点不由人。” This roughly translates to: "The monks knew it was Young Master Ma, the esteemed Mr. Ma, and all held him in high regard. That year, he was precisely thirty-two years old, encountering good fortune, just as Mr. Zhang had predicted. It is evident: everything is predestined, it is not up to humans at all."
