Reference
A reference to "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", a 2017 psychological thriller film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. When it was introduced in China, the title was translated as "The Holy Deer's Death". The film follows Dr. Steven Murphy, a respected cardiothoracic surgeon with a seemingly perfect life. He develops a strange relationship with a teenage boy names Martin, the son of a patient who died on the doctor's operating table. At first, Steven acts as a mentor to Martin, but their interactions become more frequent and unsettling. Eventually, Martin confronts Steven and tells that because he caused his father's death, he must sacrifice a member of his own family. The doctor's family descends into panic and desperation, with Steven facing an impossible moral choice. The film itself is a reference, loosely inspired by King Agamemnon's sacrifice. On his way to the Trojan War, Agamemnon angered Artemis by hunting and killing a beloved deer in her sacred grove. Artemis retaliates by causing a windless calm that prevented the Greek ships from sailing to Troy. The army, desperate to sail, was told by an oracle that the only way to appease Artemis and obtain favorable winds was to sacrifice Iphigenia, Agamemnon's daughter, at Aulis. Torn between his duty and his love for his daughter, Agamemnon ultimately chose to sacrifice Iphigenia.
