A reference to The Parable of the Farmer and the Horse (also known as the Parable of the Chinese Farmer), a Taoist story about a farmer who remains calm and indifferent in the face of fortunate and unfortunate events. It's moral lesson is to not judge events as definitively good or bad, since the true consequences of an event may not be immediately evident.
