Love in the Time of Black Tide

A reference to "Love in the Time of Cholera," a Spanish novel written by Gabriel García Márquez. It's main theme suggests that lovesickness is a literal illness, a plague that is similar to cholera. Florentino Ariza, the main character, is suffering from acute love sickness the same way one would suffer from cholera. He endures both physical and emotional pain as he yearns for the only child of a wealthy man, Fermina Daza.
