A reference to Episode 42 of anime series Gundam 0079, when a mechanic explained to pilot Char Aznable why the prototype Zeong was missing the legs: "They're just for show anyway. The brass never understands that." Technically it's true, because most gundam fights happened in space where they fly with the thrusters.
